Taking My Christmas Village Down
Tomorrow 3/7 I will be taking this lovely Christmas village down....I have really enjoyed it this year. Last year I was too lazy to put it up. So this year I wanted to leave it up as long as I could. Takes a long time to put it up....but a short time to take it down.
Don't you just love all the lights? I shall miss my village. It's always different each year, but I have found certain pieces seem to find their way back to the same place each year. Probably I just remember where they were the previous year. They just seem to fit right.
This space will look bare when the village is gone and very boring. Some of the buildings included, a light house, the church, a restaurant, general store, mechanic's garage, a bridge, water tower, sweet Jesus, Mary and Joseph in a manger, a house, people and lots of trees.
I always try to get a new piece each year....not this year though. Thinking I have plenty of buildings and people and space is limited.
There is a couple if ice skating ponds, benches to sit on. A post office, a school and gazebo.
See the boy shoveling the snow off the wooden play house. I think this is one of my favorite pieces. Always enjoy taking it out each Christmas.
I hope you liked visiting my village....sometimes I wish I could live there, away from the rat race and maddening crowd and world!!!
Since I last posted here. JP has been off work 18 days and this past Wednesday he was put on Leave of Absence. When his back is better he can return to his job. Not sure when that will happen. He tried for disability but was denied. In the mean time we sit with no income except SS (thank God for that) I called the mortgage company to tell them the situation. They said I can pay what I have and the rest, in a week when JP's SS comes. When JP worked, I always used his check to pay mortgage....now it is not there and I have to find another way to pay it.
Hopefully I will be able to get other help. I have signed up to get help to pay JP's doctor bill. Can get food at the Salvation Army and Food Share. We might be able to get SSI and Medicaid. Guess we are about to learn how to "depend on God" for the next couple of months. I will keep you posted about JP. He does have a check-up the end of this month for his prostrate, hopefully that is still clear.
I have to tell you...my printer has come in very handy, what with all the papers I have had to copy and print for these different forms and such. GOD knows what we need when we need it....Awesome God!!!
Well time to close here...keep looking up I know better days are coming.....I am sure of it. Cheers ~ Louise

Christmas Presents
Now I am looking forward to going back into my record collection to see what I have....hoping I have some Franki Valli and the Four Seasons records. I shall let you know how my hunt goes. That will be for another blog. If you have not seen the movie "Jersey Boys" do rent the DVD....it's a really good movie.
This was JP's Christmas present along with $10, two pairs of work pants, some peanut butter hot chocolate and a record. He loves lox and bagels....so Christmas morning I wrapped up the frozen lox and bagels, tomato, onion and cream cheese in colored tissue paper and put it on the table. About 3pm I said to JP, are you not going to open your presents???? (he is not a fan of Christmas and I have to drag him to the table to open his gifts.....kinda puts a damper on the festivities....scrooge!!!) So needless to say he was thrilled...I should have taken a picture of him, cause he had a big smile on his face and wanted to eat right away....score!!
JP's gift to me was $15.00 and he told me to buy some prime rib at Festivals. They always have a special on Saturday's $10 a pound for prime rib with the sauce. All I have to do is cook 2-3 minutes on each side while sautéing the mushrooms....oh my that is a delicious meal. So I got a little piece today....was surprised they still had the prime rib special going....yeah!!!
Well, time to close for now....maybe see you on the 31st....geez, I need to get some cards made for my Etsy store....have really been slacking in that area. Oh and time to take the tree down......another string of lights died....so my little tree does not light up. Goodness, bad year for lights.!!!
Have a good day and keep looking up.....Cheers ~ Louise

CHRISTMAS DECORATING
As I have not put up Christmas as yet....thought I would go back into my picture archives and brings up some Christmas pictures from 2013. Most likely this is what decorations will look like for 2014....not a lot of changes.
This is my little table Christmas tree. I thought about buying a new little "white" tree....but I am not sure yet. I like the idea of turning it into a "snowman" as you can see in my banner picture....I thought he was rather cute....where ever do people come up with these ideas...it amazes me. I had a white Christmas tree years ago and all the decorations were red. It sure was a pretty tree. JP and I were the only ones to enjoy it though....family never showed up. They did not like our living conditions....we were living together and that was not acknowledged back then....we are talking 1972 and 1973. Oh well...times have sure changed.
My Three Kings. I made these guys back in 1968, they are paper mache'....yep they are going on 46 years old. They are packed away in an "All Detergent box" and I suspect the Kings and "All Container" are all antiques.
Here is my Christmas village....I really enjoy putting this up....although it does take a lot of time, but always fun to look at during the holidays. I always buy some little people or another building to add to the montage of village pieces. My first couple of pieces were the Church and little green roofed park pagoda. From there I just kept adding pieces year after year.... mostly after Christmas sales when everything is 50% to 75% off. That's always a good time to buy.
My snowman....this was the first gift I received from JP back in 1972 (I was expecting a ring, but got a snowman instead). The ceramic angel was made and given to me by a lady back in 1984...we were, at the time picking up kids in a bus and taking them to church....I guess she was happy that we took him off her hands for Sunday mornings. Brock was his name.....he is probably a married man with kids of his own now. Funny how different things bring back memories.
These are some cookies I made and probably sent some to my Step-father in LasVegas. Need to think about his gift and get it out before the rush....what do you get an 88 year old???? So hard. My snowman in this picture was given to me by my Mother. She had a friend that was into ceramic making......it's always fun to pull him out of the box all wrapped up and set him up someplace in the house.....he always makes me smile.
Well there you have it.....a little bit of Christmas in my neck of the woods. Now the work begins, to lug things up from the basement, one box at a time. What a chore....but it is so cheery and Christmasy when the job is done.
Well, you all have a great day and keep looking up. Cheers ~ Louise

Birthday Update......and Car Problems
I love this picture of my bouquet of flowers....you just may see this picture again and again....I think it is sooooo pretty.
In this picture is the chocolate chip....I made some cranberry sauce and spooned it over the cheese cake....was so very delicious and healthy.....don't you think????
This was my slice......had to hold the plate up so the flowers could be my background. Sort of an odd picture, but you get the idea.
Well as you see by the title of this blog, this is an update of my birthday celebration. We had a wonderful time at BJ Clancys. where I had a free steak dinner....no I did not take any pictures. I guess you can take just so many pictures of a piece of steak and fries and salad and some chocolate ice cream with a candle on top.
After dinner, we came home, and I took Kylie for a walk around the block....or I mean she walked me. After the walk, I went downstairs and worked on some Christmas cards for Hospice, have about 30 Christmas, now I need to put some Birthday, Thinking of you and Thank you cards together.
Next thing on my agenda is to make some Christmas cards to send to some friends and family. Hope I can come up with some new ideas.
Speaking of family....our niece had her baby on my birthday....now I share a birthday with a little girl named Madelyn Renee....that should be an easy birthday to remember when sending a card.
Bad news, we went to church this morning which is 32 miles round trip. The car was making a funny sound when we drove off. We got to church, went through the motions of church, sing, prayer, tithes, greet, music, preach. After church this man started talking to us and we ended up staying till 2pm (church had finished at 11am) This guy was the leader of a gang of 300 guys in NYC.....my goodness, did he have some stories to tell......I suddenly felt like I had been to church...gosh he was full of the fire of the Holy Spirit. I probably could have listened to him for another hour. But, all things have to come to an end. His wife was calling him to come home. So we locked up the church and got into the car.
We were going to have something to eat at the restaurant but, it had closed. We stopped at the gas station and JP noticed that the steering was a little hard (that's strange). We left the gas station and the battery light went on...then suddenly another light went on and then a beeping sound....suddenly I saw that the radiator gauge was on hot....."JAY the radiator gauge!!!" We stopped on the side of the road, he got out and lifted the hood and he saw that the serpentine belt had broke.....oh geez...that connects everything to "everything"!!!!
So now what????? So JP called the service station we have gone to for over 25 years....no answer, but then the called transferred to the owner and he answered, we told Dave the problem and he sent a tow truck to pick up the car and us. We sat in the car for a half hour, it got a little chilly, but JP had a few snacks in his lunch box....I could feel my blood sugars either rising or lowering....but the snacks helped.
The tow truck showed up, the mechanic put the car on the truck and we jumped in the front seat of the tow truck (well, I did not exactly jump into the front seat...68 years does not jump very high or fast). The mechanic drove us to our house, cause the service station is about 5 blocks away.
What a crazy day....way too much stress of this old lady. Another adventure with JP.....no....not liking these adventures much anymore. So now we wait to see what tomorrow brings, hopefully the car will be fixed in time for JP to go to work....if not, that will be our next problem. The service station has some cars that people can use if their car is un-drive-able....well, that would be us, hopefully they have an extra car if our car is not finished.
Well, I can see this is way to long of a blog and you have probably stopped reading, cause it is so boring. I shall close here and follow-up tomorrow....I am hating the idea of seeing the bill for this job. Since I was only $125.00 away from paying off our previous bill, now they will add on to this bill the new total....uge, can we never get ahead??????? Just wondering.
Have a good day and keep looking up.....I know I do.
Cheers ~ Louise

Christmas Village.....
Cards made and mailed, the last of my cards with letters sent off today. My step-fathers gift was sent off to Las Vegas today. I was surprised that the lines were not long, maybe because of the weather??? Or maybe the bulk of everything was mailed earlier. Cookies and apple pie made, pumpkin pie next week. Decorations up. Presents bought for JP. I'm watching "It's a Wonderful Life" What's Christmas without that movie???? How many times have I seen that movie...and it still brings tears to my eyes.
I don't have any other gifts to buy....it's just JP and I, oh and my little dog, Kylie. JP's family is down in Chicago. We've not gone to Chicago for Christmas in a long time... As for my family it's just my step-father, Pops. He should get his present after Christmas...I couldn't see spending $16 for it to get to him sooner. As it was, his gift was $12 to send...the cookies and stuffed doggie didn't even cost that much. Oh well, it's the thought that counts.
So today I am showing you my christmas village....I love putting it up every year. And, every year when it comes down, I am sad to see it go.
Every year, I like to buy something new for the village, whether it be a building or people or whatever that might be. I am running out of space though, might have to extend the village for next year.
In this picture is the whole village. I guess I have some space yet to fill. Will have to check the stores for 50% to 75% off village accessories after Christmas sales.
Oh...I had some good news today. Went to the eye doctor. A different one from the last time. I had no faith in the last one and customer service was bad. So this eye doctor checked my eyes and said there was not much change from the last time and when he checked the eyes for diabetes, he said there was no sign of diabetes in my eyes...usually people who have diabetes the inside of their eyes have pools of blood. My eyes were clear. Thank you Jesus!!! My blood sugars have been normal pretty much. I told the Doctor that my average for 8 days was 115, he said that was a very good average. He even asked me, "how long have you been diabetic?" I wish I could say I am not diabetic anymore....that would be nice. Now if I could just get this weight controlled, I would be a happy camper.
Well, it is time to close for today. Tomorrow we are going to do some shopping and pay the electric bill. There is supposed to be a big storm coming our way, Weatherman is saying 4-8 inches.......it's going to be a WHITE CHRISTMAS!!!! You all have a great weekend and keep looking up for your redemption draws nigh. Cheers and Merry Christmas ~ Louise
Jesus is the Reason for the Season!!

A Relaxing (Busy) Anniversary Week-end
I thought this was a very pretty morning glory showing it's true colors.....lovely isn't it? We celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary. Not exstravagantly, but within our means. Friday was a trip to Neenah, buy a sub at Subway ($14) and sat by Kimberly Point and watched the water, and things around us, was a beautiful day. Even got on a swing for a little while.
Saturday off to the Share program and Festival foods for a $7 box (included lots of goodies, toilet paper, styrofoam plates, juices, candy bars, noodles, sauce, cake mix to name a few) and food at share and order for next month. For our afternoon excursion we went to Krieger Jewelers and pawned JP's school ring, my siam silver and a bronze medalion from 1934. Pay back was $160. I think I will look through my jewelery box and see what else I can find. Found out the ring we bought last year at a pawn shop was worth $599-$799 new...............that was nice to know. Not sure what it is worth now....maybe not as much.
Went to Sam's club to pay a bill and buy some peanut butter and lettuce, tried some samples then off to StevieB's for a pizza buffet........that was good, had salad and about 5 different kinds of pizza. Onions/pepper, Philly/steak, Hamberger/beacon, Taco, BLT.........was very good but filling! Then we went home and I fell asleep for a couple of hours. ($14)
Sunday was Church. After Church we went home, let the dogs out then went out to eat at the Wisconsin Ave diner. JP had pearch and I had a Senior Hamberger, fries and salad. Then we both had ice-cream cones. ($18) We then went to an Estate sale.....nice stuff, got a new bretta water pitcher for $1.50 and some ceramic easter eggs that should have been 1.75, but I think I got everything for $1.75. Went home, got the dogs and went to the Golden Goat and turned in aluminum cans at 60 cents a lb. that was the highest we had ever seen..........so we got $3.12 for 3 boxes of cans....not bad. Then off to KK to the antique shop to try and sell some stuff............maybe awhile before we ear anything. I am selling two hand blown candle holders with candles for $30, JP took two things priced at $14. Every little bit helps......we are trying to get some money together to get our roof patched up so it does not leak.....before the winter, hopefully.
Well, after this busy weekend, we went home and we both zonked out and slept till 8pm....whew that was a busy afternoon and the end of a busy weekend!!!!!!
Somethings we shall do again............1. Go to Kimberly point for a picnic and take the dogs with. 2. Go back to StevieBs. 3. Go to the Antique store to see if our stuff sold. 4. Go through my jewelery and see if I have any gold and silver to pawn. 5. We shall go back to Wisconsin Ave Diner, cause the food is good.....but only if we have a $3 off coupon....it's the only way to go.
Well, time to close..........may not blog till September.......so have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!!! Cheers ~ Louise

♥Jesus Loves You♥
I ran across this picture last week cleaning my husbands room. We ran a bus ministry for about 4 years and these were some of the kids we would pick up for Sunday School and Church.1983 was the year we started....my goodness 27 years ago....these kids must be in their early 30's to 40's now. My how time flies, we truely are just a puff of smoke aren't we. I will have to send this picture to the pastors at that time.....wonder where all these kids are now and if they are following after God. I remember a few names, there's Billi jo, Brock, Johnny, Stevie.......once knew all their names......my how time fades the mind.

Christmas Card and Kolacky's
This will be a short blog tonight, as it is almost 12:30am and "AH Needs" to get some sleep soon. But I wanted to show you my christmas cards I am making (gosh, and this computer is acting stupid tonight also). Anyways, this was stamped at a friends house, (her stamp) if I ever see one like it I will buy it. I used water color pencils and magic markers and white glitter for the snow. Then the picture is layered on red sparkly paper, white and beige cardstock. So, I was working on some cards tonight, think I will do about 24 cards like this the above card, then switch to another pattern and different technique......whatever that may be.
Got 4 cabbages today at church. Have some saurkraut fermenting on the counter from my previous cabbage. Think I will try some more cabbage and put it in a crock pot.........not to cook, but to ferment. I have a big crock, but it is old and there is a crack, so I had the thought to use a crock pot, see how that works tomorrow........I like boiled cabbage, might give that a whirl. Also, PoPs, my stepfather used to make a cabbage dish with bacon, tomatoes and peppers and cooked cabbage........mmmmmm.....that was always good!!!
I am going to give you an old polish receipe........I am not polish......but I just love Kolacky's, I am going to try this reciepe for Christmas, maybe use them as gifts, if I can keep them in the house long enough and JP does not eat them all.
KOLACKY1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 package (8oz) cream cheese, softened
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
thick jam or canned fruit filling, such as aprocot or prune (I like strawberry or cherry)
Cream butter and cream chesse until fluffy. Beat in vanilla extract. combine flour and salt; add in forths to butter mixture, blending well after each addition. Chill dough until easy to handle. Roll dough to 3/8" thick on a floured surface. Cut out 2 inch circles or other shapes. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Make a "thumbprint" about 1/4 inch deep in each. Fill with jam. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to15 minutes, or until delicately browned on the edges. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen.
MMMMMMMMM sounds so good, nothing like a good Kolacky!!!!! My stepgrandmother used to make them and fold the corners over and cover them with powdered sugar. MMMMMMMM
Well, I will let you go for now, you have a good day.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!
Well I have been busy, very seldom come up for air.........lol! Let's see what have I been doing???? Been working on cards and getting ready for the craft fair in October. Oh I signed up for Social Security last week, now that was a mile stone in my life!!! Working at my job merchandising.............got a new store added on to my list of stores..............you won't believe this one..........Michel's Craft Store.........omg.........the craft store of craft stores in my estimation! I already spied out the bead section mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm delicious!!!!
What else.........keeping my husband fed, the restaurant is opened 24 hours......he has to eat every 2 hours for some reason........so I need to have food ready for his two hour feedings......that keeps me busy and to top that off, we don't own a dish washer, so I
Here is a lovely picture of my front porch....JP and I have been eating out there, this little meal is my famous lasagna and french garlic bread....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I just got my hands on Adobe photoshop, so I have been playing with it.......trying to make some banners for my Etsy Shop.............I only have one month to play, then have to decide if I am going to keep it and buy the program...................yikes Adobe photoshop is hundreds of $$$$$, that I can't afford at this time. Used to use the program about 3 years ago at the job I had with "the church" I was getting pretty good at it...........but maybe not as good as I thought.............not like the pro's. Oh well, life goes on and we live and learn................what to do and what not to do. I only know now that I am glad I am not in that position, it was a blessing that God removed me from "the church" setting that I was in.
I think I shall close this blog for the night is 12:35 am..........work starts tomorrow, back into the business of life. Talk to you all later.
Louise
PS. please do go check out my etsy store and my new banner......I think so far I have made 6 banners. Go to www.cards4ubylouise.etsy.com

A Lovely Day Today
- "Frozen in Time" is a verigated plant with pink leaves and the flowers are white and edged with lime green..........this I believe will be my favorite all time african violet.
- "Ness's Midnight Fantasy" is a standard size plant and the flowers are light pink with purple spots.
- "Optimara Little Moonstone" a double white ruffled with blue tinged center. Paid $1 for 2 leaves, well, will see if I can manage to keep them alive. Might have been better to put then right into soil. Will see..............they will take 9 months to a year to start growing.......that is a long time to get some blooms.
- "Gold Stone" flower will be white/double gold with verigated leaf.
