JP's Birthday Pie and a Funny Face

Hi there everyone. Hope you all had a great Memorial Day!!! We did...we worked all day in the yard. I finished cleaning the garage...least we can walk in there now. JP cleaned my fountain, put some algae stuff in, so it doesn't turn green. He cleaned the gutter above the pond area and hung blue Christmas lights. He also cleaned and vacuumed the car. (Hard to believe we have had this car 4 years now....wow time flies.) We sat in different places in the yard and rested and talked. The park bench, the swing.....I think we rested more and talked then we did work. I cut some rhubarb and made "Honey-Rhubarb Chicken with Asparagus and Fingerling Potatoes" A recipe from Blue Apron that I will actually be making this week when the new order comes.

YOU GUYS!!!!! Was that ever a great recipe!!! The chicken was salt and peppered then fried in olive oil. The sauce was rhubarb, vinegar, roasted garlic cloves, squeezing the garlic out of their skins. Honey, 1/4 cup water and butter was added to the fond from the cooked chicken. Salt and pepper added.......then the sauce was poured over the chicken. Yes, I would make this again and again as long as the rhubarb holds out!!!!

May 17th was JP's 70th birthday. Sorry I am so late in sharing. I ended up buying him this chocolate cream pie. I did not realize it, but I bought the exact same pie last year for his birthday.....who knows, I may buy him this pie again for his next birthday.

It is really a delicious pie.....that we both enjoy!!!

Yes.....that is supposed to be one of his smiles.....he just does not take normal pictures for some reason. I really don't know what he is looking at, it certainly was not the picture taker!!!!

He blew the candle out.....not sure what his wish was for?!?! If he even did wish.....maybe for more food!!!! I think I made him Spare ribs in the pressure cooker....man, those were good too!!!

Well, I suppose I will close here for now. I must get dressed so I can take Kylie for her afternoon walk. Otherwise she will sleep the night away. I think the older she gets the more sleep she wants. I am so sad for her....her sight is going and her hearing also. Old age snuck up on her so quickly!!! Her sniffer still works...but the Doctor said to keep an eye on her....she could wander off and lose her bearings.

Can you believe it....this is the LAST day of May???? Wow! As one blog friend said, "Before we know it, Walmart will have School Supplies for sale.....! You all have a great day and keep looking up, better days are coming. Cheers ~ Louise

All Gave Some, Some Gave All

Hi there everyone. It's the Memorial Day Weekend.....where did May go??? I hope as you celebrate this day of Freedom, that you remember those that went before you. That died, that you might live in a land of Freedom from those that might destroy this great Nation. Some of those people are right in front of us. How scary to think that there are so many people living in this country that would rather live under Socialist and Sharia Laws. I sure do not understand the thinking of these people.

"All gave some, Some gave all" I just heard the announcer on NASCAR say that.  That's not my saying.

I thought I would post some Patriotic cards for this Memorial Day weekend. In this 1st card, it's a copy of someone else's, I am thinking I want to make about 10 of these cards for the Hospice meeting scheduled this Friday. I do have the red lines and some stars to add to the card. My card will most likely look much different then this one. I like the looks of this card, very clean....I will probably add my Happy 4th stamp.

I made these cards last year for Hospice.....I am always looking for new ideas.

Another copy of a 4th of July card. Looks easy peasey to make also. I need to Photo-copy this card and the first one so I can take it to my studio (in the basement) and make 4th of July cards.

Our weekend will mostly involve working in the front and back  yard. JP is pulling weeds for me in front of the porch.....my rose bushes were getting chocked out from the tall grasses growing. There is still a lot to pull. The rain from today made the weeds easier to pull. There is still so much to do. I guess I should not cry about what has yet to get done, but rejoice over the things that are done.

Our pond still needs to be cleaned out, I wanted to hear the trickle of water this weekend so I brought out a big red plastic container and put some water in it and the water fountain.........and Wa-La the sound of a water fountain trickling.

By my red park bench I have a little fountain that runs by solar. Picked that up at the plant sale for one dollar. It's really cute. I will take a picture tomorrow. Yesterday I was working in the garage, trying to straighten up a bit....how does one garage get so messy with just 2 people and 1 dog????

Anyways, some where's between all the working and sitting and trying to enjoy the day. on Saturday...the mosquitoes found me and bit up my arms and ankles....geez all I have been doing for the last 24 hours is itch and scratch. I took an allergy pill a few hours ago. Tried Noxema, Vick's Vapor rub, Absorbine and hot water (that feels good and very soothing.) See, I just put some Absorbine on my ankles and the itch stopped. YAY!!! I should be better tomorrow. I was reading the Vick's keeps the mosquitoes away....I need to try that tomorrow. A dab behind the ears, elbows and knees and where ever else bare skin is showing.

If it is a nice day tomorrow, I may cook on the grill. Well, time to close, it's almost 10:30 and the race is still going. Monday starts the Stanley Cup Finals the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins are playing......I am hoping Nashville wins, even though they beat the Blackhawks in the first round.....the Predators have never won a Stanley Cup, I am always for the underdog.

The Last Day of May and....

Hi there everyone....how was you Memorial Day Weekend.....my goodness, we plan ahead for the big day and then....POOH....it's gone.

I had a nice day...worked outside, pulling weeds and planting some tomato, pepper and cabbage plants and a few old seeds...if I don't see growth, I will replant.

We grilled out, (shucks no pictures) yummy prime rib hamburgers and red potatoes with a Caesar salad on the side. Then we ate on the front porch. Something we have not done in a long time for some reason. Yeah, I think I know the reason, I was sick all last summer and did not feel like grilling and eating on the porch. That could have been the reason.

Well, being this is the last day of May....I have 9 days till Hospice meeting. I have not even started to make cards yet.....but I think the following cards will be samples of what I will be making.

I found this card yesterday on the internet and thought it would make a great 4th of July card and even a Veterans Day card in October.

The butterfly card below looks like a fun card to make. Just punch a bunch of circles and 2 hearts for wings.

I made this card for Father's day, some birthday cards for men would be good with this design. It's kinda fun to do and very relaxing as it sort of reminds me of adult coloring.

As soon as I receive my Mini Misti in the mail....I am going to make this card. The flower comes in 4 different stamps...so using the misti will help with stamping this stamp.

Today JP and I had our teeth cleaned. We are good till September and another visit. Tomorrow the car gets an oil change. Friday through Sunday I will be sitting for Misty the cat.

I will go to her house, feed her, talk to her, pet her and clean her litter. She seems to enjoy my visits plus I even get paid to watch her. A Bonus!!!!

Saturday, Kylie goes to the groomer at 8:30am and then there is a demo at the Library put on by the Master Gardeners at 10am to 11:30 in how to do container gardening. They will put a planter together and then there will be a drawing for the planter. I feel "lucky" since I just won a Mini Misti.....lol!

My Memorial Weekend Project.....And a Blessing to Those That Served

This being Memorial Day, I would like to THANK YOU to you all that served this country that we might still be FREE. You gave your life, just as Jesus gave his, that we might be saved from our sins and live in freedom. Thank You, Thank You! For all you have done!! As this song goes, "Thank you Lord for saving my soul, thank you Lord for making me whole, thank you Lord for giving to me, thy great salvation, a gift to me."

Hi there everyone. How is your Memorial Day Weekend going??? As you can see, I am posting this on Sunday (late) evening. We were quite busy Saturday, my project was my neighbors side of their house. Her weeds were growing very well and as they have been up north, I asked her if I could pull her weeds and plant some extra tomato and pepper plants we received from the Appleton Master Gardeners. Her answer was yes.

So in these two pictures you can see all those weeds...pretty easy to pull, there was a fern and a small hostas planted along this side of her house. On the other side of the door are a few more hostas....I will work around them.

In the picture below is the finished project on this side of the door. I threw in some zucchini seeds, 2 tomato plants and 2 pepper plants and 4 cabbage plants. Along with some radish seeds. I will also throw some Swiss Chard seeds and onions too.

The ground was really pliable and easy to work with. I sure do hope these plants grow. They will get lots of hot afternoon sun during the day, so that will help in growth. Another plus will be when I walk out my back door I will see these plants growing rather then weeds. My side of the driveway will be flowers but they only get the morning sun.

Tomorrow I will have this part to work on.....maybe just pull the weeds and get some more tomato plants.....I have fallen in love with sliced tomato sandwiches.....and I want to can some this year too. So we can't have too many tomatoes!!!

Today I suffered from being outside all day yesterday and I got bit up pretty bad by the mosquitos or whatever they were. I did not feel a thing till last night when they started itching. I tried sprays, Absorbine Jr. (which felt cooling) everything. Finally a friend at church said try some Benadryl, so when we got home, I took a pill....and in half an hour I was out like a light...tonight I ran HOT water on my arms and legs. Helps for a little while then the itch starts up again.

So, as much as I would like to do some more weeding I am so fearful of the mosquitos getting me, I shall have to carry a bug candle around with me or something to repel them. OR not work so late into the evening.

I am looking forward to receiving my Mini Misti this week sometime....so I really need to get some more things planted before the Misti comes because I shall lock myself in the basement and will be playing with making cards with my Misti!!!! It's the little things that make me happy!!!

A Yummy Spring and Summer Salad....

Hi there everyone. Hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day that included family, friends and lots of good food. Also I hope you remembered those who gave their lives that we might enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Today almost felt like a Saturday....we always seem to get lots of things done. I did manage to plant some Cosmos and sowed some cosmos seeds....so it should be fun to see them grow. Next set of flowers to plant are my Zenia's, they usually get planted along side the house, which is their regular place.

I made this wonderful salad....I think this is a keeper. Very refreshing....never thought to mix cucumbers and strawberries together. The idea came from this blog

The only thing I did different was add the salad dressing and feta cheese. On this salad I used an Asian sesame salad dressing which was very good. My previous salad had Caesar's dressing. I guess you could use any dressing you like.

This is what it looks like when the husband gets a hold of the salad.....sure glad I had my portion.

Watching the Blackhawks play the Ducks in Anaheim, CA.....10 more minutes to play and the Hawks are losing.....geez.....come on Hawks!!!!!

So this week.....the last week of May, (where did this month go????) I will be cutting a friends hair. She had asked me in April...but I was sick and not able to do it. So she waited till I felt better. Nothing planned on Wednesday. Thursday I go to the Dentist to get a deep cleaning on half my mouth. The other half will be in July. Uge, not sure I am looking forward to this....but I guess I shall survive.

I am still trying to put my house back together after having Rebuilding Together people come and make many improvements on my house.....and I am still loving all the new things added. I love my kitchen and the new ceiling.....yes, I took some pictures today....soon to be seen on this blog.

Well time to close here, I made a rhubarb crisp....so I need to go try some of that and get a drink of water....thirsty!!! (Darn the Ducks just scored and there is 4 minutes left)

Cabbage and Rain

Hi there everyone. How has your week gone....I am not sure where mine went...but it went fast!!! I still have not gotten any pictures of my house and all the improvements that were made...still working on that. BUT I am thoroughly enjoying everything Rebuilding Together did. Pat still has to come back and finish up a few things. He is waiting for a warmer days to paint the front door, put the fan up and finish some electric work.

In today's post is a cabbage dish I made....this maybe on the agenda to make more of this tasty yummy dish. My stepfather made this all the time. He called me last week to let me know he had been in the hospital for 3 weeks....he fell off his mobile chair and broke his neck.....gosh that is so hard to believe for me. The Doctor wants to put him in a nursing home....but he does not want to go.
Pops has always been stubborn that way. He lives in Las Vegas....so it is not like I can go see him and talk sense....he wouldn't listen to me anyways....I am just the step-daughter.

So in these two pictures are the cabbage dish he would make. Fried cabbage and onions in bacon grease. Added some frozen tomatoes and crumbled bacon a little salt and pepper and in the bottom picture I chopped up some spinach....something Pops would never add. All in all, it was really very delicious!!!

In the picture below.....there was so much rain on Sunday the street flooded in front of our house......sure hope the sewer is not plugged up.....As the cars passed....they all made sure they went through the water spraying it up on the sidewalk!!! Watch out, children at play.

Yep....lots of rain and lots of puddles and it looks like more rain is coming for the Memorial Day weekend. One good thing though, with all that rain that fell.....

I am so glad to say our ceiling DID NOT LEAK!!!!!  Yay!!!! I am still moving things back into the kitchen a little at a time.....but maybe less things will enter the kitchen to clutter it up. I bought some new curtains and want to get some tiles for behind the stove...to make it easier to wipe the walls which get so greasy.

Well time to close here...have to go do some dishes and get dinner ready for JP....pork spare ribs in the crock pot and potatoes, salad and fruit. Have a great day and keep looking up!!!

Some Cards I Plan on Making

Hi there everyone. Are you enjoying your Sunday evening??? It's Downton Abby night at 8pm, so wherever I am with this blog....I shall then go and watch it....I'm a fan. The blog can wait.

Thought I would post some cards I am planning on making. Note: these cards are not what I have made...but are cards that I have seen on Pinterest and copied to my files for future use. All these cards are made with the Stampin' Up Stamps called "Works of Art" I think this is the most versatile stamp set I have ever seen. I love something that has lots of uses, it tickles my creativity.

These two cards will be good for Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veteran's Day....will be fun to make.

Both of these cards, using the same set, two different ideas in making sail boats.

Most of you have seen this card...I made it for Christmas this year....Mr. Snowman was lots of fun to make.

~Memorial Day~

Hi everyone. Hope your day is going well. I just wanted to give thanks to all those that served this wonderful nation by giving their lives that we might be free. Not just those in the present, but in the past...Revolutionary Wars, Civil Wars, 1st World War, 2nd World War, Korean War, Viet Nam War, Desert Storm, Afghanistan War and all those wars in between. So many lives given that we might be free. It is like when Jesus died on that cross over 2000 years ago....He gave His life willingly that we might be saved. That we might spend eternity in heaven with Him. The ultimate sacrifice.

It is sad how this country is changing so radically by men and women whose only desire is for more money and power. Who want to take away our freedoms more each day. I only hope those that died for our freedom will not have died in vain. And, when Jesus died for our sins....that too was not in vain. I know God will have the last word, for He still reigns supreme and has total control. He created this world and only HE can end it, anyway He desires.

Kylie Taking Her Walk Along the Tracks

Hi everyone...how is your day going? My, what a beautiful day!! On my way to do an errand today, I stopped at a garage sale, and also picked up some free wood skids. Winning....I was needing some new skids for the basement to put things on in case of small floods in the future. Yay....found them today. One was nice enough that it almost looks like a little fence that I can put in the back, it might hinder the rabbits from running between the neighbor's and our garages.....we'll see how that works.

 Well here you see Kylie walking along the tracks....she is a sniffer at heart and has to take in all the smells she can. She is part poodle and part schnauzer. I think the schnauzer is predominate in Kylie's life, cause she always has her nose to the ground. I have a feeling if she was not on a leash, she would be off and running.

We got Kylie from the Animal Shelter in Osh Kosh. She was a stray. Who knows what happened, she might have run off, or the owner dropped her off on a side road....hard to say how her life started out.

 So here is a shot of the railroad tracks....pretty exciting huh?!? Yeah, I know. This is a shot heading east. The tracks are about 3 blocks from our house. Close, but not too close. Not sure if I would like my backyard to be the tracks, though.

Hummmmm...I had to think a second and get my bearings as to where this picture was taken. But it is on the other side of the lot, facing the tracks, the park section and WI Electric Generators. So there you have it, pictures of "Kylies Park" and the place she likes to roam. The walk back is rather interesting. I will take my camera with again and take pictures of a few things....

Well you all have a wonderful weekend and Memorial Day. God Bless America and God bless the servicemen and women that gave their lives that we might be free. I hope their lives given were not in vain. It is so sad to see the direction this wonderful "God fearing" country is headed. Sorry to say those in authority are not very God-fearing and that is the reason this county is going down the tubes and faster then we realize.

A Little Bit of Flooding....(sigh)

Hi everyone....Hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day!!! Nothing special here, but yes, I did enjoy the day. The rains came in the late afternoon and as you can see, our backyard flooded out. It must have rained A LOT during the night, and if it stormed and thundered, I did not hear it.

So in the above picture and the ones following is what we woke up to. Miracle upon miracles....the roof did not leak real bad. We seem to have different places on the roof that seem to leak at different times. There is a spot in the bedroom that gave a few drips today....JP put a bucket under that leak.

Well as you can see in the different pictures (taken from the kitchen window) most of the water is towards the back of the yard. I think we are in a valley and the lowest part of this block. Guess I never really noticed it before. As I walk Kylie up the street and across Drew street and look back, you can see how the block dips and we are at the lowest point. Maybe we are living in a great big "sink-hole" for all we know......yikes!!!!!

Oh my.....so much work to do, you can see the "snow on the mountain" is growing pretty good, it covers a multitude of problems. the darker green is weeds and violets growing. The darker patches are dirt and water. The red, of course is mulch.

Here's a close up of the our pond. Lot's of water.......the sun came out about two hours ago after this picture was taken....right now it looks as if it never rained at all. Sunny and blue skies.

This is the damage down in the basement. I usually have an old carpet laying down there, you can see it in the right hand corner. I rolled it up and it is sitting up, hopefully to dry, you can see the floor is very wet. I have the de-humidifier on, so hopefully I can get downstairs tonight and do some card making. Had an order the other day, so I need to get working on that.

This is on the other side of the basement where all my card making stuff is. Again I had carpet laying down and have picked it up to dry. The carpet laying down right now needs to be picked up and taken outside to dry........but I think there is more rain coming again, so I don't know how dry it will get.

I am glad that when we first moved into this house almost 23 years ago.....we put everything on skids to keep things dry...guess we were thinking ahead for times like this.

Well, time to close, hope you have a wonderful week and get all the planting done that needs to get done. I usually don't start planting till Memorial Day.....all chances of frost have passed. Sometimes I wish I lived in a longer growing season....but for now this is where God has planted me and I need to grow here.

We Honor the Men and Women Who Fought For Our Freedom!!

Yes, today is Memorial Day! A day to honor all those who fought for our freedom to live a life free from the Dictators that would take away our freedoms. Sad to say, that is happening right before our eyes. Men in Washington DC want to do just that, take away what the Founding Father's etched into history.....Freedom and Liberty..........God Bless America.

Here's a few pictures from the weekend. JP and I

enjoyed a day on the lake and our little "mini-vacation." Sitting on Sandi's porch looking over the lake. We didn't go on the pontoon boat as the water was pretty choppy with lots of wind. There were a few "adventerous people" out in their boats. We just relaxed on the porch, watching the boats and clouds pass by, eating chips and vegies. The kind of day I could get used to.

Here is a picture of the house across the way.....looks like they are having a cook out and enjoying the weekend too!!

Last but not least. I call this picture a "sea of petunia's" sweet huh......I bought some red ones and planted them along side the house in little white urns and in the front of the house on the porch. I also picked up a lavendar Geranium. when it starts growing and producing I shall take a picture of it and post it. Never saw a lavendar Geranium before........it almost took my breath away when I saw it. So stay tuned for my coming attraction.

♥Giving Thanks♥

Hope you are having a Great Memorial Day and giving thanks to God for all your blessings! We are a blessed Nation, blessed by God in every way. (As long as we bless Israel, we will be a blessed nation, but when we begin to curse Israel we will be cursed.) But yet, many have turned their backs on God and Israel and now wonder why their lives are being turned upside down. They question everything about God and doubt that God even exists. Sad commentary.

Man thinks he is all wise, all knowing and the healer of all. He can pass laws into being which he does not have to follow, but expects those under him to follow them to the Tee. To me, that is a little ego-centric and haughty. How can man think he is better then God who created everything? I have a very hard time understanding how man thinks at times.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the Lord." And "My ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts". (Isaiah 55: 8,9) So, where does man get off thinking he knows more than God? Why do some religions think their "gods" are better than God The Creator? How do all these other religions get off thinking they have all the answers, when all these religions are just men's agenda at playing God!?!? Life sure can be complicated and two-faced at times!!!! Could the answer be that they have "given heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devels"? I wonder........food for thought!

On Memorial Day we are to think of all those who gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. Think of what Jesus did, he gave his life so that we might have life and have it more abundantly plus have relationship with God and live eternally with Him in heaven. There is a doctrine going around that there is no Hell, that it's all made up.........guess that is for those same men who have their own agendas. "As for for me and my house we will serve the Lord"!!!

Well, guess I will get off my little soap box for today..........every now and then I like to rant and this seems to be my place to do just that. You can agree or disagree that is your choice. For isn't that why this country was founded on? That we could have "Religious freedom" and think for ourselves, no one really has the right to tell another what to think, doesn't that become a socialistic country then? We are still in a free country......for now. Thank God For That!!!!

Memorial Day..........

We won't be doing too much on this day, probably stay around the house in the morning. Do a little shopping in the afternoon, need dirt and dog food, maybe some hamburger and buns for cooking on the grill...........what a conbination, to say the least.

We have a funeral to go to in the late afternoon, but we are still not sure if we will be going to it yet. Our pastor from 15 years ago died, He had many things wrong, guess they were expecting him to die for the last 5 months..............well, he certainly is in a better place. He finally got raptured and has met Jesus face to face.

Been getting lots of things done around the outside of the house, we just figured we have about 25 different flowers planted around the house, some have come up by themselves and some have been planted with seeds and bulbs. JP planted 90 gladiolis bulbs (pink and white....mmmm can hardly wait to have them displayed in and around the house). We have some square foot gardening going, what fun that will be, planted some cucumbers in the one box...........the other one will have radishes, beans,.....................not sure what else. JP painted one of the old grills red and we put some dirt in it and planted onions and spinich in that one. We have another grill to paint, maybe that one will be green.........or blue, not sure yet.

I made another set of cards, 12 little 3 x 3 1/2 thank you cards for whatever you would like to use them for, here is a picture, I had fun making them, each one is different in some way. Each card is blank on the inside so you can write whatever you would like. The cards will come well packed and I probably will put an extra card in along with these little cards as a special gift for buying my cards

These cards do not come with an envelope, but can be tied to the gift with the ribbon. I believe I am selling these cards at $.58 cents a piece that would be $7.00 plus postage, might run you about $8.50. I have thought about doing "Free" postage, but I am not in a good financial position to do that as of yet. Maybe if I had $200 under my belt I could do it. But for now it's not a good idea. Best way to buy the cards would be to go to my Etsy store at: http://www.cards4ubylouise.etsy.com/ you can use your credit card, Paypal will take care of the transaction for you, just be sure to follow through to the end of the transaction. The reason I say that is that I have read where many people do not follow through and the sales somehow gets lost, it shows up sold at the etsy shop but for some reason the sales did not go through......I have read many horror stories about this all.
